Methods of Take

Methods of Take was bound, illustrated, and printed by Mandy Darrington in November, 2024. Using a coptic-stitch binding method, graphite illustrations, and letterpress text flocked in soil hand-collected from the Black Hills of South Dakota, Methods of Take extracts text directly from the 2024 Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s Hunting and Fishing Guide. The book explores connections between the animalization of women and the feminization of nature that serves to justify their mutual exploitation. The book questions and co-opts that dehumanization through embedding personal and collective histories of girlhood within the mythology of the American West.
